How important is your organizing type?

There are two different types of organization. Knowing which one is right for you will help you stay organized long term.

When it comes to organizing anything, there are two main styles: micro organizers and macro organizers. 

Macro organizers love large containers that have everything inside. Think of a toy box where all the toy simply get shut up in the toy box and it’s done and organized. 

For micro organizers, everything should be organized into smaller categories. You might find bins in their toy box so that the cars can be paired with the puzzles. 

It’s important to remember that there is no right or wrong way to organize – both of these are excellent ways to organize! It is important to remember that no one person is perfect in any particular area. Your craft room may need to be micro-organized, but your pantry might need to be macro-organized.

If you’ve always had a super organized kitchen drawer with tape, scissors, batteries, chip clips, and hair ties each in their own container, then you might be a micro organizer! On the flip side, if you’ve always been able to find what you’re looking for in your sock drawer where everything is just tossed inside, you might be a macro organizer!

You can also go online to find out what style you are. Look at photos of spaces that are organized. Which one speaks to you? Are small containers too overwhelming for you? You might like the feel of several large baskets hidden away. Your organizing style will be determined by the photos you are most drawn to.

Last but not least, give it a try and see what sticks. If macro organizing appeals to you, you can start by organizing your pantry. You’ll love it or you’ll hate it and that way you’ll have a much better idea of your own personal style.
